About the SJCS House League
The House League at St. John Choir Schola was created as a way to enhance community among the students, promote healthy competition and develop character. All our students are divided into two Houses: Sparta and Athens.
Junior students collect house points by completing homework on time, achieving perfect spelling scores, and by showing sportsmanship in Phys Ed classes. They also earn points by their Jeopardy House games on First Fridays.
Senior students collect house points in a similar way at the discretion of the tutors. All tests and exams receiving a grade of 90% and up automatically qualify for house points. House games on First Fridays, and Phys Ed classes also contribute to points. As well, each house is assigned tasks for the week on a rotational basis. This includes soup set-up and kitchen duty on Wednesdays, managing tables/desks, vacuuming and tidying classrooms on Fridays.
A house prefect, and an assistant prefect are assigned to each house. They are chosen by SJCS staff & admin from among the grade 10-12 students. The prefects take charge of their houses by managing the tasks assigned to them, encouraging their character development, and responding to any problems or complaints the students may bring to them. SJCS staff will be available on a regular basis to meet with the prefects and take stock of the development of the houses.
The House with the highest points at the end of the year is declared the winner of the Olympus Cup and is presented with the trophy at our annual award ceremony and graduation in May.
