The Pursuit of Virtue is the pursuit of Excellence: the classical nature of athletics
The Physical Education program at SJCS is designed to promote physical activity, fitness, and overall well-being among students. It typically includes a variety of sports, exercises, and activities that aim to develop students' physical abilities, motor skills, and sportsmanship. In keeping with the classical approach to our program:
GRAMMAR STAGE
Repetition, fundamental skills; drills, strength-building; warm ups
LOGIC STAGE
Applying learned knowledge; developing and integrating logic and strategy, competition; scrimmage
RHETORIC STAGE
Finally, in the Rhetoric stage, the whole picture comes together; perfecting skill; working together, polishing team play; perform in front of audience; sportsmanship and virtue
All SJCS students participate in 2 hrs per week of physical education. Skills development is directed at a variety of sports including volleyball, soccer, basektball, handball and badminton.
Additionally, the fully-equipped gymnasium is open before classes, at lunch and after classes for students to use freely.
Thank you for making it accessible for ALL students to participate rather than just the talented few. Our experience in other Catholic programs in the city have emphasised excellence and competitive success over participation and growth for all. We are glad that so far SJCS has seen success while welcoming all participants, something that enhances our Catholic ethos and character development for all students. As a parent of two neurodiverse children (who also experience physical challenges), this matters enormously to me and gives me hope for their future participation with SJCS Eagles. ~SJCS Parent
