The Board is pleased to announce that Tom Diment has taken the position as Board Chair. Tom’s inaugural year on the Board has been a gift to all the Schola community, as his deep insight and wisdom, as well as his skills and experience have proven to be a tremendous asset to the Schola. We look forward to his tenure as Board chair and know his service, prayer and dedication will continue to be a blessing to our organization. 

​We also want to welcome two new directors: Ben Francis and Greg Abernethy. 

Ben is the father of 6, three of whom are students at the Schola. An entrepreneur as well as an engineer, Ben and his wife Sara have been very active in the Catholic community in Calgary ever since he arrived here from Nova Scotia for a “temporary” stent that has happily lasted nearly 20 years.

Greg is also the father of 6 children. The Abernethys are a longtime homeschool family here in Calgary, having homeschooled their oldest three children from primary through graduation. Congratulations go out to their eldest son, Sebastian, who was married this month. Greg’s daughter is a student at SJCS and Greg’s youngest sons frequently serve the schola’s First Friday Masses. Originally from Saskatoon, Greg has a degree in Electrical Engineering and currently works in the energy sector as a software architect.

The Board thanks both of these men for volunteering, and looks forward to the skills, wisdom and contributions they will bring to the team.

As what has been a wonderful year comes to an end, the Board members are well into the work of making sure next year is even better. We look forward to the fun of doing another Musical, and welcoming several new families to our beautiful community.
